Our Community & the Environment

Green Policy

Ottawa is a wonderful place to live, grow and raise a family. This is due in part to many of the volunteers, non-profit organizations and caring people who create a sense of belonging even in a city of over one million people.

Thyme and Again has been privileged to meet and work with some of these great people and organizations that have made such a difference in our community. Thyme and Again also supports the community that we live in. We are located in the heart of growing West Wellington Village and support our local schools, arts programs, and community events through donations of gift baskets, gift certificates and products from our store. Our strong commitment and support of the arts and charitable/community organizations has continued to grow along with our company.

From our Catering Department, Thyme and Again has led the charge to get involved in our wonderful community and encourage and mentor other small business to contribute by leading by example.

Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR)

Thyme and Again believes in the triple bottom line approach. A socially, environmentally aware member of the community; locally produced foods, wines and artisan beer, with a focus on strong green practices has made us a leader in “green catering” in Ottawa. We are proud members of Savour Ottawa.

Support the local farmers

Thyme and Again and Sheila Whyte are a distinguished member of Savour Ottawa – the highest ranking. This requires us to spend our money on local food from May through October and to promote our food and farmers on our menus.

When you see the Savour Ottawa logo at farmers’ markets, butcheries, retail grocery stores and more, you can feel assured that each product or establishment with the logo has undergone a verification process to ensure that they are using local food in their products, or are a local producer.

It's So Easy Being Green ...

Thyme & Again Catering is continually striving to reduce the impact of our carbon footprint. While our efforts are ongoing, we are proud of the steps that we have made so far:

We independently source local supplies for local foods, and strive to carry local and organic foods where possible. We promote and source both organic and local products on catering and in our food shop. We carry other organic products, including a line of chocolates, organic tea and fair trade coffee.

We began commercial composting in 2007. We compost or recycle almost all of our kitchen waste, having twice weekly compost pick-up and recycling pick up. We recycle in the shop as well as off site caterings.

For more information contact: Tomlinson Environmental Services

In 2008 Thyme and Again successfully banned bottled water in our Take Home Food shop, on catering and to our staff off site. We have successfully implemented “creative” water stations to the delight of our clients, and have had overwhelming response to this action.

Compostable, Chlorine-Free Coffee Cups – Inner lining is made from 100% corn and not petroleum. The paper comes from trees that were harvested sustainably. They will compost within 60 days at a commercial composting site.

All of our cleaning supplies, dishwashing chemicals and paper supplies are environmentally friendly.

Our catering and cafe staff are all briefed on our environmental initiatives and are encouraged to tell our story to our patrons.

Our web site is continuously updated to inform our clients of our green initiatives.

Our recycle program: our customers bring in their empty Thyme & Again vinaigrette bottles for a refill.

Our single use cutlery and plates, plastic carry-out bags are now 100% bio-degradable (we also offer paper and re-usable poly-fabric shopping bags)
